One World

by Sara Azriel

Dear Jon,

If you are here, thank you so much.

The main motif, which is - in my heart - a close relative to "American Symphony Theme", feels like it contains both the grief we collectively feel for the division in this country and the uprising of hatred and bigotry, as well as a deep prayer for healing -- for love and unity to prevail.

This is a very raw and imperfect, live, rubato-style elastic expression of this song, which is still in process. I am arranging it with a gospel choir, so the motif will be sung with many voices. I've performed it publicly three times, and the response from people has been profound.

From my soul to yours, I truly can not thank you enough.

With love,

Sara

PS: If you think there is a legal issue of it being derivative, I would obviously want to make that right. sazriel@berklee.edu 310-999-4774

One World

We let our cities fall at the break of day

Something 'bout the time release

Something like a reckoning

As we watch our victories fail to stay

All the tidings in decay

Can we love our enemies with their hate?

Oh, the mystery calls, yea the mystery calls

And I know I'll never be made that way

In the presence of an open gate

B

Lo, I turn to you

Love could lead us through

Will you take my hand?

Peace be with you, friend

'Cause life keeps moving faster than we can ever know

VS 2

I'll light this little candle in my heart

Praying there's an opening, hoping I can do my part

cuz we know two wrongs won't make it right

I'm so tired of war, let's lay down this fight

And I know I'll never walk in your boots

Still I care for you, could you care for me too?

Could we come together and love tonight?

I'm asking you to make this right

B

Lo, I turn to you

Love could lead us through

Will you take my hand?

Peace be with you, friend

'Cause life keeps moving faster than we can ever know
